COLORADO SPRINGS - The Johnson & Wales University men's basketball team was unable to erase a double-digit halftime deficit Saturday against Sul Ross State, falling 91-76 in the Rocky Mountain Thanksgiving Classic at Reid Arena.
The Wildcats shot 34.4 percent in the first frame and trailed 43-30 at halftime. The Wildcats' offense came alive in the second half, scoring 46 points, but the Lobos were able to protect their lead by shooting nearly 60 percent in the final 20 minutes.
Freshman Andray Thomas Jr. scored a game-high 27 points on 8-of-11 shooting and had 15 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Thomas made 11-of-13 free throws and added four assists and three steals. Freshman Brandon Romero finished with 13 points, making 3-of-7 from behind the arc, while freshman Ricky Poole and sophomore Charles Young contributed nine points each.
Sul Ross State leaned on its bench, out-scoring the JWU reserves 69-16.
The Wildcats returned the Wildcat Center on Saturday, Dec. 7 to host Oglala Lakota.
