Men's basketball ends December with setback at Centenary

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Johnson & Wales University men's basketball team wrapped up December with a 92-54 loss at Centenary College on Monday. 

Freshman Kaleb Atherley recorded his second straight double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds while classmate Ricky Poole joined him in double figures with 10 points off the bench. 

Ty Prince scored 25 points and Cedric Harris had 21 to lead the Gents (7-4, 4-0), who remained perfect in conference play. Centenary shot 50.0 percent from the field and went 11-for-32 from behind the 3-point arc. 

The Wildcats (2-9, 1-3) had one of their most productive efforts from its bench all season as freshmen reserves Kade Glover scored nine points and classmate Jaerron Hunter seven.

After getting outscored 58-23 in the first half, JWU nearly played Centenary even in the second half (34-31). The Gents finished with a 20-4 advantage in second-chance points and a 46-17 edge in the paint. 

The Wildcats return home to host the University of Dallas on Friday, Jan. 3 at the Wildcat Center (5:30 p.m.)
