Wildcats fall in home finale

DENVER - The Johnson & Wales University men's basketball team came up short in an SCAC matchup against Schreiner University on Saturday at the Wildcat Center, falling 73-52 to the visiting Mountaineers. 

Sophomore Charles Young scored 13 points and had three rebounds and a steal for the host Wildcats (2-10, 1-14). Freshman Jaerron Hunter added 10 points and three assists while classmate Andray Thomas Jr. had nine points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals in JWU Denver's final home game of 2020. 

Paul Wells paced the Mountaineers (8-15, 6-10) with 23 points and 14 rebounds. 

Schreiner controlled the game from inside, outscoring JWU 42-28 in the paint and 49-34 on the glass while finishing with a 16-4 edge in second-chace points.

Schreiner led for 36-plus minutes of the contest and led by as much as 28 with 14:48 on the clock in the second half.

The Wildcats wrap up the season next weekend with games at Texas Lutheran and Southwestern.
