SEGUIN, TX - A slow start cost the Johnson & Wales University men's basketball team in an SCAC road matchup at Texas Lutheran as the Wildcats fell 84-66 to the host Bulldogs.
JWU Denver outscored TLU 46-38 in the second half but it wasn't enough after trailing 46-20 at halftime.
Sophomore Gavin Spinks paced the Wildcats with a season-high 16 points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Sophomore guard Shyreef Robins also had a season high with 15 points on 7-of-14 shooting to go with four rebounds.
Sophomore Charles Young was the third Wildcat in double figures with 13 points. Sebastian Andrade led TLU with 26 points.
The Wildcats came up short despite their best shooting effort of the season, converting 48.1 percent of their field goal attempts, including 4-of-11 from the 3-point line.
TLU got ahead thanks to 19 second-chance points and 17 points off turnovers. JWU wraps up the 2019-20 season Saturday at Southwestern.
