Fernandez paces Wildcats in spring opener

AUSTIN, Texas – The Johnson & Wales University men's golf team hit the ground running on Monday, opening the spring season by playing 36 holes at the Linda Lowery Invitational.

Junior Alexander Fernandez paced the Wildcats at River Place Country Club with a total of 171, placing him 28th individually. Fernandez opened with an 89 before shooting a second-round 82.

Sophomore Manuel Garcia III sits in 38th with a two-round total of 190 (97-93). Junior James Shalhoup made his Wildcat debut with a 36-hole total of 192 (192). Steven Gadient shot rounds of 96 and 123 while Andrew Thimjon carded a 118 and 106.

JWU Denver will wrap up the tournament with the third and final round on Tuesday.
