Men's golf in 6th place at Oregon Tech Spring Invite

EAGLE POINT, Ore. – Junior Alex Fernandez (St. Johns, FL) shot rounds of 87 and 80 to lead the Johnson & Wales University men's golf team at the first day of the Oregon Tech Spring Invite at Eagle Point Golf Club on Saturday. 

Fernandez's two-round total of 167 (+23) places him in a tie for 23rd. Not far behind on the leaderboard is classmate James Shalhoup (North Easton, MA) after an 88 and 80 to sit 25th.

Andrew Thimjon (Hillsboro, OR) finished with a two-round total of 177 (92-85). Steven Gadient (Shelbyville, IN) is at 181 (91-90) and Manny Garcia (Lakewood, CO) totaled a 185 (89-96) for the Wildcats, who are in sixth place with a score of 690 heading into Sunday's final round.

Four of JWU's five competitors improved from Round 1 to Round 2.

Host Oregon Tech leads the team race at 598 over Menlo (615) while Oregon Tech's Alejandro Armijo and Menlo's Tom Field are tied for the individual lead at 3-over.
