SALEM, Ore. – Junior James Shalhoup's best round as a Wildcat has him positioned for a top-10 finish at the Willamette Valley Cup.
Shalhoup (North Easton, MA) shot a 4-over 76 during Saturday's opening round at Creekside Golf Club to lead the Johnson & Wales University men's golf team. Shalhoup caught fire at the turn, making birdie on 18, 1 and 3 after starting the day on the 10th hole.
Shalhoup's strong finish has in him a tie for 11th and six shots off the lead.
Freshman Steven Gadient (Shelbyville, IN) also had his best round of the season, carding an 8-over 80 to place tied for 19th. Gadient made birdie on holes 12, 14 and 2.
Junior Alex Fernandez sits in 26th place after a round of 83 while sophomore Manny Garcia (Lakewood, CO) shot 84 and freshman Andrew Thimjon shot 86. The Wildcats are in sixth place as a team at +35, just two back of Pacific (OR).
