SALEM, Ore. – Junior James Shalhoup (North Easton, MA) shot a 10-over 82 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 15th at the Willamette Valley Cup, leading the Johnson & Wales University men's golf team to a sixth place finish at Creekside Golf Club.
Shalhoup was in the hunt for a top-10 finish after entering the day tied for 11th and making birdie on holes 14 and 16.
Junior Alex Fernandez (St. Johns, FL) improved four strokes from Saturday's opening round and shot 79 Sunday to place 22nd. Fernandez now has at least one round in the 70s in five out of sixth events this year.
Sophomore Manny Garcia (Lakewood, CO) and freshman Andrew Thimjon (Hillsboro, OR) also bettered their scores from Round 1 to Round 2. Garcia fired an 83 Sunday to finish +23 for the tournament and tied for 27th. Thimjon carded an 85 to place 29th at +27.
Freshman Steven Gadient (Shelbyville, IN) followed up his round of 80 on Saturday with a 94 on Sunday, placing 31st to round out the scoring for the Wildcats.
