Fernandez paces Wildcats in first round of Wildcat Invitational

McMinnville, Ore. -- The Johnson & Wales University men's golf team returned to competition Saturday at the first round of the Linfield College Wildcat Invitational. 

All five Wildcats scored within three strokes of one another, led by Alex Fernandez's 82, placing the senior tied for 33rd. Junior Manny Garcia was one shot back of Fernandez with an 83, followed by matching 84s by sophomores Matt Randall and Andrew Thimjon. Fellow sophomore Steven Gadient was one back of Garcia and Randall with a round of 85. 

JWU Denver totaled a 333 as a team, placing the Wildcats ninth and four back of eighth-place Corban. The tournament concludes with Sunday's second and final round at Michelbook Country Club.
