The Wildcats wrapped up their trip to Missouri on Sunday with an early afternoon matchup against Rockhurst University, an NCAA Division II program.
The host Hawks came out of the gate with the early momentum, rattling off a quick 4-0 lead in the first five minutes of play. Jean-Sebastien Vila (Fort Worth, Texas) got the 'Cats first shot on goal with 9:31 left in the first frame but RU's Patrick Fitzsimmons made the stop. The Hawk's offense continued to hold strong and Rockhurst took a 9-0 lead into the second quarter. Wiley Cates (Montclair, N.J.) had some timely saves for Johnson & Wales throughout the second as the 'Cats defense started to stall the Hawk's offense. At the break, Rockhurst held the 14-0 advantage.
The Wildcats head a flurry of shots early in the fourth with Sean Haeussinger (Santee, Calif.) breaking through for JWU at 11:51, scoring his first of the season. The Wildcats offense started to perk up after the early fourth quarter goal but couldn't add another, falling 24-1.
Haeussinger led Johnson & Wales with five shots and Cates had four ground balls. Cates made 12 saves for Johnson & Wales.
The Wildcats will retun to action on Sunday, March 18 when the face Adams State University in Alamosa at 1pm MT.
