Wildcats honored with 2018 James "Ace" Adams Sportsmanship Award

The Johnson & Wales Denver men's lacrosse program was selected by the District 9 chapter of the National Intercollegiate Lacrosse Officials Association (NILOA) organization as the winner of the 2018 James "Ace" Adams Sportsmanship Award.

"We are honored to be selected for this award," said JWU coach Kurt Ohlen.  "We emphasize sportsmanship and respectful play in our program, and the coaching staff and players are grateful to the NILOA officials for recognizing our efforts."

Established in 2006, the James "Ace" Adams Sportsmanship Award is presented annually to the college or university in each of the 11 officiating districts whose coaches, players, and fans exhibit the best sportsmanship throughout the season. Additionally, consideration is given the treatment of the officials prior to, during and after games. Recipients are selected by collegiate lacrosse game officials.

"I know this honor is held in high esteem by the officials in honoring not only the recipient, but also remembering the award's namesake," said JWU Denver Director of Athletics Tom Byrnes.  "It has special meaning to officials organizations in choosing the award winners.  Thanks very much to you and the organization for choosing to honor the JWU Denver men's lacrosse program."

A presentation of the award will be made at JWU's game vs. Salve Regina on March 14, 2019, at Aurora Sports Park by Bill Johnson, the District 9 NILOA Governor.
