DENVER – The Johnson & Wales University men's lacrosse team opened the 2019 season on Sunday at Aurora Sports Park with a 15-1 loss to visiting Adams State, a Division II school out of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Junior Coleton Threlkeld (Cypress, TX) scored the Wildcats' first goal of the season at the 5:08 mark of the third quarter. Junior Matthew Sening (Centreville, VA) assisted Threlkeld's even-strength score.
Kale Wilson scored four times and Chase Rodine had three goals to lead the Grizzlies to a win in their season opener.
Adams State out-shot JWU 14-1 in the first quarter as the visitors built a commanding 4-0 lead and 9-0 advantage at the break and 10-1 after three frames.
The Wildcats had five extra-man opportunities but couldn't cash in any of those chances. Threlkeld led JWU with two shots on goal while Israel Trejo (Aurora, CO), James Compton (Fruita, CO) and Casey Carrigan (Littleton, CO) had three ground balls each.
The Wildcats will now head north for a road trip with games against Northwestern-St. Paul on Friday, North Central on Saturday and Northland on Monday.
