Eagles soar past Wildcats

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Johnson & Wales University men's lacrosse team headed north for its first road game of the 2019 season, falling 28-2 to the University of Northwestern on Friday.

Deshaunte Longley and Matthew Sening scored the Wildcats' two goals. Keller Stephens found the back of the net nine times for the host Eagles (1-0) while teammate Noah Vander Kooi scored five times.

UNW scored eight times in the game's first 12 minutes to take an 8-0 first-quarter lead. The Eagles went up 18-1 at halftime and led 24-1 after three frames. The hosts finished with a 48-4 advantage in shots on goal and a 65-16 edge in ground balls.

Coleton Threlkeld assisted on Longley's goal, which came at the 7:58 mark of the second quarter while Israel Trejo was credited with the assist on Sening's early fourth-quarter score.

Austin Cruz played all 60 minutes in goal for JWU (0-2) and made 20 saves. The Wildcats return to the field Saturday at North Central (Minn.).
