MINNEAPOLIS – The Johnson & Wales University men's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season Saturday, earning a 13-10 road win over North Central University.
Threlkeld's unassisted goal with 3:19 to go in the second quarter proved to be the game-winner, giving the Wildcats a 7-6 lead heading to the break. A goal by Justin DeFoe with 2:16 left in the third capped a run of four straight goals by JWU as the Wildcats built a 13-7 lead before holding off a North Central comeback.
After trailing 6-3 midway through the second frame, the Wildcats outscored the host Rams (0-1) 10-1 over the next quarter and a half to seize control. Goals by Israel Trejo and Casey Carrigan helped fuel JWU's dominant stretch.
Austin Cruz started in goal for the Wildcats and made 13 saves on 23 shots.
