WHITTIER, Calif. – The Johnson & Wales University men's lacrosse team was unable to contain a hot Whittier College team on Saturday, falling to the host Poets 31-2 at Memorial Stadium.

Whittier (9-1) out-shot JWU (1-6) 21-1 in the first quarter to establish a commanding 13-0 lead. Goals by junior Coleton Threlkeld (Cypress, TX) and freshman Justin DeFoe (Hunington Beach, CA) gave the Wildcats some life midway through the second quarter.

However, JWU was unable to find the back of the net again as the Wildcats trailed 20-2 at halftime and 26-2 after three quarters.

Against a Poet squad that won its third straight, JWU struggled to establish any kind of momentum offensively, committing 32 turnovers, ending with a 67-13 deficit in ground balls and finishing just 3-for-33 in faceoffs.

Freshman Austin Cruz (Pearland, TX) earned the start in goal for the Wildcats and registered 14 saves while playing all 60 minutes.

JWU returns home for their first-ever SCAC conference game Saturday against Southwestern.
