DENVER – Year 2 for the Johnson & Wales University men's lacrosse team as a varsity sport concluded with a record-setting performance.
In his last game as a Wildcat on April 20, senior Deshaunte Longley (Bronx, NY) recorded a hat trick by scoring three goals against SCAC opponent Dallas. That brought Longley's goal total for the season to 13, breaking teammate Coleton Threlkeld's single-season program record set last year.
Threlkeld (Cypress, TX) matched his goal production from a season ago, finding the back of the net a dozen times this spring. Longley's 2019 campaign also included team marks for the best shot percentage (61.9) and the top shots-on-goal percentage (81.0) by a Wildcat.
Freshman Israel Trejo (Aurora, CO) also earned his way into the team record book, setting a new standard in two single-season statistical categories – assists (5) and faceoff wins (76). Trejo also led the team with 38 ground balls.
Fellow freshman Austin Cruz (Pearland, TX) got plenty of experience in net for the Wildcats, logging 541-plus minutes and finishing with 126 saves, another team record. Cruz's 12.60 saves per game ranked third in the SCAC. Classmate Casey Carrigan (Littleton, CO) was tops on the team with 11 caused turnovers and ranked second with 36 ground balls.
The team's 2019 season was highlighted by a 13-10 win on Feb. 23 over North Central (Minn.). Longley and Threlkeld both scored five times and Cruz made 13 saves to lead JWU to victory.
