Wildcats notch fifth shutout of season

Johnson & Wales kicked off their home schedule on Friday with a 1-0 win against Doane University in downtown Denver.

Jesus Mojardin (Tijuana, Mexico) sent his attempt wide right in the third minute as Johnson & Wales started to get their offense going. Christian Gallegos (Alvin, Texas) put the first shot on frame in the 4th minute but Doane's Hayden Howard made the save. Tanner Hoffman (Sioux Falls, S.D.) saw his shot saved in the 23rd minute as JWU continued to look for the back of the net.

Andy Siddoway (Sandy, Utah) stepped up to the spot for the Wildcats after Doane was called for a foul in the box. Siddoway converted the shot to give Johnson & Wales the 1-0 lead in the 34th minute. Jordan Collier (Plainfield, Ill.) made stops on both shots he faced in the first half as the 'Cats took the 1-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, Kyler Fowkes (Arvada, Colo.) forced Doane's Howard to make a save in the 54th minute. Collier made a save on an attempt by Doane in the 63rd minute to keep the Tigers scoreless. Johnson & Wales continued to look for a second goal but couldn't find the back of the net. Their 'Cats defense held on to earn their fifth shutout in six games. 

Gallegos had two shots on goal for Johnson & Wales and Collier made three saves.

Johnson & Wales will continue their homestand on Sunday when they host Avila University at the Regency Athletic Complex in downtown Denver at 2:30pm.
