'Cats fall to Oklahoma Baptist

The Wildcats hosted Oklahoma Baptist University on Saturday evening under the lights in their sole match of the week.

Johnson & Wales made their presence known early as Ben Flannery Bartlett (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) put a shot on frame just over a minute into the game but OBU's Thomas Ackernecht made the stop. A header by Flannery Bartlett went high in the ninth minute as Johnson & Wales looked to find their way onto the scoreboard. In the 12th minute, Tanner Hoffman (Sioux Falls, S.D.) was knocking on the door with a shot on frame but OBU's Ackernecht made the stop.

In the 20th minute, Brandon Wallace (Folsom, Calif.) forced the Bison defense to make the stop. Zach Peterschmidt (Colorado Springs, Colo.) tried to break through just two minutes later but the Bison again kept JWU off the board. Austin Collier (Plainfield, Ill.) had a header attempt saved in the 38th minute as the two sides took a 0-0 draw into the break. JWU had five shots on target in the first half but couldn't break through the Bison defense.

In the second half, the Bison saw an attempt by Thiago Dos Santo go wide of frame and Flannery Bartlett's 57th minute attempt was also wide. Michael Genge (Thornton, Colo.) made a save on the first shot he faced in the game in the 80th minute to keep the match scoreless.

In the 83rd minute, Oklahoma Baptist broke through with Jared Hill scoring from the right side to give OBU the 1-0 lead. The 'Cats weren't able to get another shot on frame as the Bison took the 1-0 victory.

The Wildcats had six shots on goal with Flannery Bartlett having three shots and one on frame. Overall, Johnson & Wales had 10 shots in the contest.

JWU will travel to Colorado College on Tuesday night to take on the Tigers at 6:30pm in Colorado Springs.
