#20 Tigers hold off Wildcats

(RV) Johnson & Wales traveled south on Tuesday night for a midweek match at NCAA Division III #20 Colorado College.

Christian Gallegos (Alvin, Texas) was looking to get the Wildcat offense going early but saw his fifth minute attempt go high. In the 10th minute, Jordan Collier (Plainfield, Ill.) was called into action, making a save on an attempt by Sam Markin. Collier made another save in the 19th minute on a shot by Joel Frykholm. The 'Cats defense made a stop in the 25th minute, blocking an attempt by Frykholm.

In the 31st minute, Sam Markin put the Tigers on the board crossing a ball to the far post giving CC a 1-0 lead. Gallegos got the first shot on frame for Johnson & Wales in the 36th minute, but CC's Keller Mochel made the stop as Colorado College took a 1-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, the 'Cats continued to look for an equalizer as Gallegos sent another attempt high in the 53rd minute. Zach Peterschmidt (Colorado Springs, Colo.) put a header on target but Mochel again made the stop to keep the clean sheet going.

Collier made a big stop in the 65th minute that allowed Johnson & Wales to counter and Tanner Hoffman (Sioux Falls, S.D.) had his header attempt blocked at the other end. Collier had another save in the 85th minute and Kyler Fowkes (Arvada, Colo.) put a final minute shot just high as the Tigers held on for the 1-0 win.

Gallegos had a match high four shots for the Wildcats with one shot on goal. Collier made five saves for Johnson & Wales.

Johnson & Wales (8-4-3) will have a 10 day break before they host Rochester College (2-13-0) in an A.I.I. matchup for Homecoming on October 21.
