Johnson & Wales traveled to Central Christian College on Saturday to close out their regular season in an A.I.I. matchup.
The contest began with both teams looking to find an offensive rhythm early. A shot by Josh Costello (Gold Coast, Australia) pinged off the crossbar in the fourth minute. Kyler Fowkes (Arvada, Colo.) sent a shot wide in the 10th minute as JWU looked to find the back of the net. An attempt by Mitchel Erickson (Pueblo West, Colo.) was saved by CCC's Brian Silva in the 13th minute.
The Tigers had one shot on goal in the closing seconds of the half that Jordan Collier (Plainfield, Ill.) made the save on to take a 0-0 draw into the break.
In the second half, Erickson again saw his attempt saved by the Tiger's keeper in the 52nd minute. Fowkes continued to pepper the CCC defense with shots but saw his attempts go off target. Michael Genge (Thornton, Colo.) took over in goal for JWU in the second half and made his first save of the game in the 74th minute. The Tigers got on the board with 11:08 left in the game as JWU started to look for the equalizer.
In the 82nd minute, Fowkes sent a free kick into the box that Costello headed in to tie the game 1-1. Costello sent another attempt wide with 7:54 to play as Johnson & Wales searched for a game winner. The Tigers went up 2-1 with 5:26 to play. The 'Cats couldn't find the late equalizer, falling 2-1 in the regular season finale.
Erickson had a game high two shots on goal and Costello had four attempts. Collier and Genge each had a save for Johnson & Wales in the loss.
The Wildcats will host the Tigers in a rematch during the 2016 A.I.I. Conference Championships on November 11 at 7pm at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
