Johnson & Wales closed out the homestand on Sunday afternoon when they hosted Texas Lutheran University at Aurora Sports Park.
The visiting Bulldogs put David Furnas (Memphis, Tenn.) to work early as he had to make a stop on an attempt in the third minute. Furnas had another save a minute later as the Bulldogs looked to get some early momentum. The two sides battled with the ball through the midfield after initially feeling each other out. Emad Mohammed (Darfur, Sudan) forced TLU's Brendan Soto to make a save on his attempt in the 17th minute. Furnas again came up big in the 24th minute.
Lemi Abera (Arjo, Ethiopia) put a shot on goal in the 34th minute but TLU's Soto again came up with the save. Furnas had another save for Johnson & Wales before the break to keep it scoreless going into the break.
In the second half the Bulldogs tried to get the early goal but Furnas made the stop in the first minute. TLU broke through in the 51st minute as Nicolas Medina found the back of the net for Texas Lutheran. The visitors continued to hold the ball for much of the second half with a couple more attempts that were off target. In the 81st, Kyle Hernandez (Aurora, Colo.) made the defensive save on an attempt by TLU's Luis Green. The Bulldogs doubled their lead in the 85th minute and fought off a pair of late challenges from the 'Cats to get the win.
Mohammed and Abera each had a shot on goal for Johnson & Wales and Furnas had five saves for Johnson & Wales.
The Wildcats (2-3-1, 0-3-1 SCAC) will head to Schreiner University next Friday to face off against the Mountaineers at 1:00pm MT.
