Men's soccer dealt another late defeat

HOUSTON - The Johnson & Wales University men's soccer team suffered its second overtime loss in the span of 10 days Sunday when the Wildcats lost 2-1 at St. Thomas.

After a scoreless first 76 minutes, Luis Garza put the host Celts (5-5-0, 1-1) on the board in the 77th minute. JWU freshman Ezequiel Chavez scored four minutes later off a deflected pass into the box -- assisted by Emad Bashir-Mohammed -- to pull the Wildcats even with 10 minutes left in regulation. Chavez, a midseason addition, has now scored in back-to-back games in just three contests with the Wildcats.

St. Thomas' Maxwell Lockhart scored from 20 yards out two minutes into overtime to lift his team to victory, assisted by Fabrizio Policastro.

Sophomore goalkeeper Erick Torres made six saves for the Wildcats

JWU returns home Friday to host Texas Lutheran at Aurora Sports Park (4 p.m.).
