AURORA - Not again.
For the third straight game, and fourth time out of its past five, the Johnson & Wales University men's soccer found itself a sudden-death overtime against an SCAC opponent Sunday. Unbelievabley, the Wildcats have come up on the wrong end of each contest, falling 3-2 to visiting Southwestern on Sunday at Aurora Sports Park.
Seth Holzmann provided the game winnner for the Pirates in the 92nd minute, assisted by Michael Glode.
Freshman Josh Guzman gave the Wildcats an early lead they have coveted all season when he headed home a corner kick by senior Alexis Araiza in the fifth minute to give JWU a 1-0 lead. The Pirates then struck twice before halftime on goals by Michael GLode (29') and Jack Adams (39') to take a 2-1 advantage at the break.
For the second time this weekend, the Wildcats battled back with a second-half equalizer when junior Emad Bashir-Mohammed punched home a perfectly placed free kick off the foot of sophomore Kyle Hernandez in the 52nd minute.
Both sides had their chances late to win it in regulation before the Wildcats found themselves in a golden-goal situation for fourth time in the past three weeks.
Holzmann's breakaway game-winning goal to the bottom left and was the first shot by either side in the extra period.
JWU will look to end its string of tough luck losses with a pair of road matches next weekend at Dallas on Friday and Austin on Sunday.
