Johnson & Wales headed to Boulder on Saturday for the CU Open at the University of Colorado.
Junior Albert Rodriguez (San Jacinto, Calif.) achieved a program first as he met the "A" qualifying standard in the 800 meter run with a finish of 1:56.11 to finish 17th in the mostly Division I field. His "A" mark gave him an automatic qualification to the 2017 NAIA Indoor National Invitational in Johnson City, Tennessee later this month. He becomes the first men's track athlete to qualify for an NAIA National Invitational.
Bryce Moore (Loma, Colo.) finished in 31st place in the 800 meter with a time of 2:01.00. In the 60 meter hurdles, Corwin Scherer (Burbank, Calif.) finished in 13th place with a time of 8.95 in the prelims and Devon Phillips (Brooklyn, Mich.) crossed the line at 9.17 in 14th place.
The Wildcats will head to Alamosa next weekend for the Adams State University Invitational on Saturday.
