DENVER – When it comes to distance events, the Johnson & Wales University men's track and field team did some serious work to rewrite the school record book this spring.
The Wildcats set program marks in three events while posting a number of other top-five performances.
Junior John Jacob (Aurora, OH) put together the race of the year April 27 at the SCAC Championships in San Antonio Texas when he crossed the finish line of the 10,000-meter race in 33 minutes, 38.02 seconds. Jacob's time earned him a school record and a silver medal.
Jacob's runner-up performance made him the first-ever SCAC All-Conference selection in team history. The junior was also part of the Wildcats' 4x400 relay team that set a new team standard with a time of 3:55.05 to place seventh at the conference meet. Classmate Bryce Moore (Loma, CO) and freshmen Noah Llerandi (Boulder, CO) and Cody Lane (Fairmont, MN) were also part of the bar-setting relay.
In the meet leading up to conference, Moore set the school record in the 5,000-meter run with an altitude-adjusted time of 15:39.87 at the Tom Benich Invitational at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. In that same race Jacob, Lane and Llerandi recorded the second, third and fourth best times in the event by a Wildcat.
Moore began the spring outdoor season with a notable performance in the 1,500 when he ran a 4:09.95 (altitude-adjusted) at the Jerry Quiller Classic at the University of Colorado in Boulder, ranking second in team history behind only former teammate Alberto Rodriguez's 4:00.55 recorded at last year's Air Force Twilight Open.
