'Cats 10th on Saturday

The Wildcats started October with the Metro State Invitational on Saturday in Wash Park near downtown Denver.

The field of 144 took part in the 8K event on a warm morning in the Mile High City. Steven Juarez (Gering, Neb.) was the first Johnson & Wales runner across the finish line in 55th place at 28:48. Bryce Moore (Loma, Colo.) finished in 85th place at 29:37 and Francisco Padilla (Aurora, Colo.) was in 119th place at 31:20.

Corwin Scherer (Burbank, Calif.) finished in 142nd place at 35:25. A strong final leg by Alan Almeida (Aurora, Colo.) helped him push past a runner from Central Christian to take 143rd place in the final 20 feet with a time of 35:54.

The Wildcats finished in 10th place in the team standings with a score of 291 points. Host Metro State took home the team title with a score of 36.

The Wildcats will head to the Tiger Invitational hosted by Fort Hays State University next Saturday.
