'Cats kick off season at Colorado College Invitational

Johnson & Wales opened their 2017 season on Saturday at the 2017 Colorado College Invitational at Monument Valley Park in Colorado Springs.

The 8k race featured teams from Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State - Pueblo, Metro State, Colby Community College, Westminster, Cloud County Community College, Regis University and host Colorado College.

Alberto Rodriguez (San Jacinto, Calif.) was the first Wildcat across the finish line, with a time of 29:25.3 in 65th place. Bryce Moore (Loma, Colo.) was second for Johnson & Wales in 81st place with a time of 31:00.6 followed by Steven Juarez (Gering, Neb.) in 84th at 31:22.1. Alan Almeida (Aurora, Colo.) was fourth for Johnson & Wales at 38:25.1.

The Wildcats will hit the highway for the next race as they travel to Las Vegas, New Mexico for the New Mexico Highlands University Cross Country Jam on September 23.
