The Wildcats headed to Bettendorf, Iowa on Saturday for the 2017 Association of Independent Institutions Cross Country Championships at Crow Creek Park.
The 8K race featured six teams including NAIA #1 British Columbia. Alberto Rodriguez (San Jacinto, Calif.) finished in seventh place and was the first Wildcat across the finish line with a time of 26:48.8 followed by Bryce Moore (Loma, Colo.) in 13th at 27:24.0. Steven Juarez (Gering, Neb.) finished in 17th place at 27:43.9 ahead of Daniel Larom (Elk River, Minn.) in 23rd at 29:43.8. Abe Villegas (Irving, Texas) finished in 34th at 34:51.
Rodriguez preliminary qualified for the 62nd Annual NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championships in Vancouver, Washington on November 18. Individual qualifier will officially be announced by the NAIA early next week. He was also recognized for his performance with A.I.I. All-Conference Second Team honors.
British Columbia finished in first place with a team score of 15 points followed by College of the Ozarks (Mo.) in second with 51 points. Johnson & Wales had a team score of 94 to finish in third among the six institutions.
