Wildcats head to SCAC Championships

The Johnson & Wales men's and women's cross country teams are preparing for the institution's first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships the Wildcat runners will participate in the 2018 SCAC title chase on Saturday at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas. 

Second-year head coach Chris Sandefur's harriers will be among eight teams competing on courses at Scheiner's campus.  Trinity (Texas) University is the defending team champion in both the men's and women's event.  Other teams competing will be Colorado College, Texas Lutheran University, University of Dallas, Austin College, Southwestern University and the host Mountaineers.

This is JWU's first year as members of the SCAC as JWU transitions its athletic programs into NCAA Division III.  All 15 Wildcats varsity sports are competing as SCAC members this year, including the women's volleyball and men's & women's soccer teams, which began regular-season competition against SCAC teams in September.

The women's 6K championship race will start the championship action at 9:00am CT.  JWU's top competitors include junior Rachel Seligson (Palo Alto, Calif.) along with freshmen Morgan Lozano (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and Lynette Mientus (Germantown Hills, Ill.)

The men's 8K chase will follow at 10:00am CT, with senior Alberto Rodriguez (San Jacinto, Calif.) looking to lead the JWU pack.  Juniors Bryce Moore (Loma, Colo.), John Jacob (Aurora, Ohio), freshmen Noah Llerandi (Boulder, Colo.), Cody Lane (Fairmont, Minn.), sophomore Abelardo Villegas (Irving, Texas) and senior Alan Almeida (Aurora, Colo.) have provided strong support throughout the 2018 season.
