Women's Basketball comes up short against Rocky Mountain

Johnson & Wales opened play at the Arizona Christian Classic against the Rocky Mountain College (RV) Battlin' Bears. The 'Cats played strong against the NAIA Division I Bears throughout the contest and stayed within range before stalling in the mid-20s heading into the break down 27-35. JWU was just 9-35 in the first half with six of those buckets coming from beyond the arc.

The Wildcats came out of the break with a better look at the basket but found themselves sending the Bears to the charity stripe for 20 attempts where they managed to convert just 9 shots from the free throw line. The second half had the Wildcats matching Rocky Mountain in scoring but their late first half standstill proved to be their downfall as they dropped the contest 61-69.

Caitlin Durkin again led the Wildcats in scoring with 25 points and joined a quartet of 'Cats, Samantha Neal, Kourtney Shirley and Victoria Huber, with seven rebounds each.  Neal also added two blocks for Johnson & Wales. Austin Hanser and Erin Cooke each had 19 points for the Battlin' Bears.

Johnson & Wales (8-5) will play host Arizona Christian in a conference matchup on Saturday at 4:00 PM MST.
