The Wildcats wrapped up their weekend on Saturday in Phoenix with their second game of the week against Arizona Christian University.
The Firestorm held the early 5-0 lead before Johnson & Wales rallied back to tie the game 7-7 on a layup by Andromeda Sales (Blackhawk, Colo.). ACU fought back and took a 17-11 lead into the break. The Firestorm extended their lead to 21-11 and maintained a double-digit lead throughout much of the second quarter.
After 20 minutes of play, the Wildcats had worked the ACU advantage down to single digits with the Firestorm leading 32-24.
The Wildcats came out firing to start the second half as they cut the Firestorm lead down to four points. The 'Cats offense stalled as ACU pushed ahead to a 15 point lead after three quarters of play.
The fourth quarter saw the two teams trade buckets back and forth with both sides matching eachother bucket for bucket. The 'Cats couldn't make up the ground needed as the Firestorm held them off for the 70-56 win.
McCorra Ford (Gillette, Wyo.) led all players with 25 points and had a game high 11 rebounds for Johnson & Wales. Dominique Riley (Arvada, Colo.) had four assists for JWU. Courtney Christmas had 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Firestorm.
Johnson & Wales will head to Kansas next weekend for games against Sterling College and Tabor College.
