The Wildcats faced Colorado College for the second time in a week to close out the season series with the Tigers on Tuesday night in Denver.
Neither team came out of the gate with a lot of fire as the two sides traded buckets in the early minutes. A three minute span went by with neither adding to their total was broken up with a pair of made free throws by McCorra Ford (Gillette, Wyo.). The Wildcats pushed their lead up to 11-4 late in the first quarter following a three pointer by Cara McNiff (Aurora, Colo.). The Tigers stormed back though and added three points late to cut the 'Cats lead to 11-7 after 10 minutes of play.
In the second, the Tigers regrouped and tied the game 11-11 after 1:14 of action. The contest was back and forth with CC getting their first lead of the game with 4:56 left in the second quarter to go up 16-15 on JWU. The Wildcats started to have some momentum late and took a 27-23 lead into the break.
In the third, the Wildcats extended their lead to 40-27 midway through the quarter. The Tigers tried to cut into the lead but the 'Cats wouldn't back down and matched the Tiger's offense. The 'Cats led by nine after three quarter. In the fourth, the Wildcats tried to work the clock but the pressure from CC forced them to speed up their offense. Colorado College came within early in the fourth but Johnson & Wales was able to focus and put the game away for the 65-47 victory.
McNiff led JWU with 18 points and Ford added 16. Ford led all players with 16 rebounds in the contest. Casey Torbet had 16 points for CC and Christina Bowman finished with eight rebounds.
Johnson & Wales (6-7) will host Central Methodist University (8-2) on Friday night at 5pm in their December Classic.
