Wildcats fall on Friday against Eagles

The Wildcats hosted Central Methodist University on a chilly night in Denver.

The two teams traded baskets early with a three point bucket by Andromeda Sales (Black Hawk, Colo.) to put the 'Cats up 8-4 after three minutes. The first quarter continued with neither side building up much of an advantage as the visiting Eagles took a 21-19 lead into the second quarter.

Central Methodist extended their lead to six early in the second but the 'Cats regrouped and tied the game 25-25. The Eagles kept trying to push their lead but Johnson & Wales kept CMU within reach. The Eagles held the 37-35 lead headed into halftime.

The Eagles pushed ahead in the start of the third to go up 50-39 in the early minutes. The momentum had shifted enough in the Eagles favor that would keep the Wildcats chasing for the final 15 minutes of the game. Each time Johnson & Wales came within a couple of buckets the Eagles would forge ahead and extend their lead.

Central Methodist went on to hold off a late push by JWU to take the 87-64 victory.

McCorra Ford (Gillette, Wyo.) led JWU with 17 points and a game high 11 rebounds. Allison Butler (Del Norte, Colo.) recorded 10 points and three steals. Sophie Thompson had 26 points for CMU and Alaya Cooper-Johnson brought down 10 boards.

The Wildcats will be off until they travel to Hillsboro, Kansas for the Tabor Holiday Classic on December 30 & 31.
