Strong start fuels win

The Wildcats returned to action on Friday in their first game of 2017, hosting Oglala Lakota College.

The Wildcats began the contest with an early 17-1 run to set the tone of the contest. In the scoring run, McCorra Ford (Gillette, Wyo.) put up 10 points for the 'Cats over the first five and a half minutes. The Lady Bravehearts added points but JWU held the 21-9 lead after 10 minutes.

In the second quarter, the Wildcats pushed their lead up with back to back three pointers by Cara McNiff (Aurora, Colo.) over the course of 40 seconds. Salma Oros (Buckeye, Ariz.) and Dominique Riley (Arvada, Colo.) got in on the three point shooting as Johnson & Wales took a 42-18 lead into the break.

The third quarter saw the 'Cats begin on an 11-2 run as they pulled the game away from OLC. The Lady Bravehearts started to find some momentum throughout the third and fourth but JWU's hot start helped them to the 73-42 victory.

Ford led all players with 24 points and brought down 17 rebounds for Johnson & Wales. Oros added 10 points and seven boards off the bench. Cammi Bear Killer had 20 points and 11 boards for OLC.

JWU will face Oglala Lakota College again on Sunday at 12pm at the Wildcat Center.
