The Wildcats headed south to Espanola, New Mexico on Friday for a rematch with #10 College of the Ozarks in Association of Independent Institutions play.
The Wildcats held their own early against the ranked Bobcats with JWU holding the small 12-7 advantage through the first four and a half minutes of play. CofO started to surge and took advantage of an offensive stall by JWU to jump out in front 18-12. McCorra Ford (Gillette, Wyo.) hit a three pointer in the 'Cats last possession of the quarter to cut the deficit to three points after 10 minutes of play.
In the second quarter, the Bobcats started strong but the 'Cats maintained some of their late momentum and kept themselves close. Each time that College of the Ozarks would try to make a run, the Wildcats would battle back and CofO took a 4-031 lead into the break.
The third quarter was hard for the 'Cats as they struggled to get any type of rhythm going. College of the Ozarks picked up their offensive tempo and pushed their lead to 26 midway through the third. JWU shook off the rust but couldn't make up the difference in the second half as they fell 68-90.
Ford led all players with 28 points and a game high 13 rebounds for Johnson & Wales. Three different Bobcats had 16 points each and Kelsie Cleeton finished with 11 rebounds.
Johnson & Wales will host Northern New Mexico College next Friday and Saturday when they wrap up their home schedule at the Wildcat Center.
