The Wildcats finished a weekend of contests against Nebraska Christian with a 57-71 loss to the Sentinels on Saturday.
The hosts found themselves up 7-2 early in the first quarter before the Wildcats rallied to tie the game 10-10. The two sides traded buckets with the Sentinels taking a 22-17 lead into the second quarter. Nebraska Christian started to build some distance in the second quarter as they pushed their lead up to 37-26. Johnson & Wales tried to make up some ground but the Sentinels held the lead as they went into the break up 43-30.
The second half started with the Wildcats trying to shake off the offensive rush as they fell behind 38-55 with just over three minutes left in the third quarter. The Wildcats trailed by 15 entering the final quarter. The two teams traded baskets to start the fourth as the 'Cats tried to make up ground but the Sentinels matched them bucket for bucket. A late push by Johnson & Wales allowed them to cut the deficit to single digits but the Sentinels regrouped and pushed their lead back up, taking the 71-57 win.
Andromeda Sales (Black Hawk, Colo.) led the Wildcats with 14 points and both Salma Oros (Buckeye, Ariz.) and Cara McNiff (Aurora, Colo.) added 10 points each. Sales head nine rebounds for Johnson & Wales in the lost.
The Wildcats will head to Phoenix next weekend for a tournament at Arizona Christian University. They'll face the host Firestorm on Friday, November 10 at 7:00pm MST.
