The Wildcats closed out their weekend roadtrip to South Dakota with a Saturday evening contest at Black Hills State University.
Andromeda Sales (Black Hawk, Colo.) put the 'Cats on the board first with a three point bucket just eight seconds into the contest. The Yellowjackets tied the game at 3-3 and then went up 8-3 won the 'Cats. A pair of free throws by Salma Oros (Buckeye, Ariz.) put JWU back to within three points. BHSU started to pull away and took a 28-11 lead into the second quarter. In the second quarter, BHSU maintained their offensive tempo while holding the 'Cats to just a few shots offensively. At the break, Black Hills State held the 45-18 advantage.
The second half featured Brianna Aluya (Placentia, Calif.) providing much of the offense for Johnson & Wales as she was able to drive her way to the basket. The Wildcats couldn't put together the scoring runs they needed in the second half to cut into the Yellowjacket's lead, falling 36-85.
Aluya led Johnson & Wales with 18 points and had six rebounds. She was 8 for 18 from the field. Julia Seamans had 24 points for Black Hills State and Katie Messler finished with 11 rebounds.
Johnson & Wales will head to southern Colorado on Tuesday for an evening matchup at Adams State University.
