The Wildcats headed to Colorado Springs on Tuesday for an evening matchup with Colorado College.
Johnson & Wales opened the game on a 5-0 run before CC found their way onto the scoreboard. The two sides went back and forth for most of the quarter with the Tigers holding the 12-9 advantage after the opening 10 minutes. In the second quarter, the Tigers broke up a 15-15 tie and started to build some distance. At the end of the first half, Colorado College took a 30-20 lead into the break.
In the third quarter, the Wildcats traded baskets with the Tigers. Each time the 'Cats would make up some ground the Tigers would counter with a run to keep JWU at arm's length. The fourth quarter played out the same as with JWU coming as close as five points with four minutes left but Colorado College was able to hold them off for the 57-49 win.
Brianna Aluya (Placentia, Calif.) led Johnson & Wales with 15 points and Allison Butler (Del Norte, Colo.) added 13. Aluya had a game high 12 rebounds for the 'Cats. Casey Torbet had 16 points for CC and McKenzee Gertz had eight rebounds.
Johnson & Wales will head to Louisiana and Texas this weekend for contests at Centenary College and University of Dallas.
