Johnson & Wales closed out their season on Saturday afternoon with a loss to Northern New Mexico College.
The first quarter began fairly even between the two sides. After holding the slight 10-9 advantage with just under four minutes left, the Eagles started to push the tempo. NNMC went up 20-11 with 2:04 left in the opening frame. The 'Cats added a couple quick buckets to cut the lead down to 22-16 after the first 10 minutes. In the second quarter, the Eagles again pushed the game and built their lead up to 12 points. The Wildcats had a few points to cut into the lead but the Eagles shut them down and went up 36-21 with 6:16 left in the half. A late run by the 'Cats in the second allowed JWU to come within seven but another bucket by NNMC gave the Eagles the 43-34 advantage at the break.
In the third, Johnson & Wales put together a small run to come within four points and eventually three with 7:16 on the clock. NNMC again pushed ahead and extended their lead. Johnson & Wales fought their way back into the game and brought the game to a 59-57 Eagle's lead at the end of three. A layup by Kailey Nelsen (Parker, Colo.) tied the game 59-59 with 7:25 to play. The Eagles put together a scoring run to go back up top by 12 points with just under three minutes. Johnson & Wales couldn't make up the ground late, falling 67-74.
Brianna Aluya (Placentia, Calif.) led Johnson & Wales with 20 points and Andromeda Sales (Parker, Colo.) added another 18. Allison Butler (Del Norte, Colo.) had eight rebounds for JWU. Ashley John had 31 points for Northern New Mexico and Jade Hill finished with 11 rebounds.
