SEGUIN, Texas – The Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team was unable to overcome a tough shooting night in a 74-40 road loss at Texas Lutheran on Friday night.
Brianna Bailey led all scorers with 21 points, her second 20-point effort in the past four games, for the Wildcats (0-7. 0-2 SCAC). Shaylee Andreatta finished with seven points and eight boards while Avionne Gomez added five points and five rebounds for JWU Denver.
The Wildcats made 3-of-21 from the floor in the opening half, including 2-of-14 from the 3-point line, as the host Bulldogs (5-5, 1-0) sprinted out to a 45-18 lead at the break.
Jayla Santa Maria scored 11 of her team-leading 13 points in the first half for TLU (5-5, 1-0).
Bailey (Colorado Springs) played all 40 minutes for coach Bob Kintzel's team, knocking down five 3-pointers and 6-of-7 free throws to go with seven rebounds. Teammate Katey Guzman finished with seven points, three rebounds and two assists while Ashlea Carothers corralled five rebounds.
The Wildcats are right back at it Saturday at Southwestern.
