'Roos run past Wildcats

SHERMAN, TX – The Johnson & Wales women's basketball team dropped the first game of its final road trip of the season on Friday, falling 65-33 at Austin College.

The visiting Wildcats (2-18, 1-13) could never find a rhythm offensively, shooting 22.2 percent (10-of-45) from the field. Brianna Bailey led JWU Denver with 14 points and seven rebounds for her seventh straight double-digit scoring effort.

Katey Guzman finished with seven points and two rebounds while Salma Oros chipped in six points, four assists and two steals for the Wildcats.

Bryce Frank led the 'Roos (18-4, 11-2) with 16 points and 16 rebounds to help her team keep pace in the SCAC regular season conference title race.

Austin jumped out to an 18-8 lead after the first quarter and then stretched the advantage to 31-16 at the break. The 'Roos dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 21-5 to blow it wide open.

JWU wraps up the road portion of its 2018-19 schedule Saturday at Centenary (3 p.m.).
