JWU Denver falls at Centenary in road finale

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team wrapped up the road portion of its 2018-19 season with a 63-44 loss at Centenary College on Saturday night.

Avionne Gomez's layup with 8:39 left in the fourth quarter cut the Wildcats' deficit to six points, 43-37, but the visitors were unable to close the gap any closer. Brianna Bailey led JWU Denver (2-19, 1-14) with 16 points, five rebounds and three assists. The freshman from Colorado Springs, Colo., went 4-of-9 from the 3-point line and was one of three Wildcats to play all 40 minutes.

Katey Guzman (12 points, four rebounds, three steals) and Salma Oros (10 points, five rebounds) also played the entire game for coach Bob Kintzel.

Jasmine Morris scored 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting for the Ladies (8-15, 6-8), who finished with a 44-28 advantage on the glass and held JWU to 26.8 percent shooting (15-of-56).

The Wildcats wrap up SCAC conference play Saturday, Feb. 16 (1 p.m., Wildcat Center). All former JWU basketball players are invited to attend the game against in-state rival Colorado College.
