DENVER – The Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team was unable to overcome a rough third quarter in a 61-41 loss to visiting Nebraska Christian on Friday night at the Wildcat Center.
The two teams were tied at 23-all at halftime before the visiting Sentinels opened the third stanza on a 10-0 run to open up a double digit lead. NCC out-scored JWU 22-6 in the third frame as the Wildcats went 0-for-10 from the field. JWU (2-21) could never recover and trailed by at least 16 points the entire fourth quarter.
Brianna Bailey led all scorers with 24 points and corralled 10 rebounds for her first-career double-double. Salma Oros and Avionne Gomez finished with matching box scores of six points and four rebounds each for the Wildcats.
Kayla Bloodworth led NCC with 16 points, 16 rebounds and eight blocks, helping the Sentinels control the paint as they ended with a 52-38 advantage on the glass.
The two teams play again at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Wildcat Center in JWU's season finale.
