Women’s basketball falls to Macalester

COLORADO SPRINGS - The Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team dropped its opening game of the Rocky Mountain Thanksgiving Classic, 72-52, to Macalester College on Friday at Reid Arena.

Sophomore Brianna Bailey led JWU Denver (0-4) with 14 points, four rebounds and two assists. Freshman Abigail Pare scored a season-high seven points and grabbed a pair of rebounds while sophomores Katey Guzman and Avionne Gomez added seven points each.

After scorning 12 points in the first quarter and 14 in the second and third frames, the Wildcats were held to just two points in the fourth quarter. JWU protected the ball well and committed a season-low 11 turnovers but shot just 26.7 percent of from the field were out-scored 11-0 on the break.

Holly Hull led the Scots (1-5) with with 15 points while Katie Sowerbyhad 11 rebounds.

The Wildcats wrap up the weekend Saturday against Pacific (Ore.).
