HOUSTON - The Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team traveled to Texas for its first SCAC road game of the season Sunday. The Wildcats came up short against the University of St. Thomas, falling 80-65 to the host Celts.
Sophomore Katey Guzman had her third 20-point scoring effort of the season, finishing with a game-high 23. Classmate Brianna Bailey finished with 18 points as the JWU (0-8, 0-3) backcourt duo again combined for at least 40.
Sheridan Hopkins had 20 points to lead UST (7-3, 2-1) as the Celts won the teams' first ever matchup as conference foes.
JWU played UST within a bucket in the second and fourth quarters but couldn't come back from a 23-11 first-quarter deficit. The Wildcats continue their road trip Monday at Centenary.
