DENVER - Down three of its most experienced players, the Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team fought as hard as it could Friday night against visiting Colorado College.
Multiple injuries limited the JWU lineup to just five players as the Tigers came away with a 78-30 SCAC conference victory at the Wildcat Center.
Freshman Erin Pahl made the most of her first start as a Wildcat, scoring a career-high 12 points to lead a short-handed JWU squad. Freshman Abigail Pare also had a career high with eight points while sophomore Avionne Gomez finished with six.
Mckenzee Gertz led the Tigers (9-5, 5-2) with 20 points, surpassing 1,000 career points in the first half as CC jumped out to a 15-3 first quarter lead.
Colorado College finished with a 46-25 edge on the glass and forced JWU into 23 turnovers while making all 16 attempts at the free throw line.
JWU will look to get healthy over the next six days before traveling on the road to face Trinity University on Friday, Jan. 17 and Schreiner University on Saturday, Jan. 18.
