KERRVILLE, TX - Ball security issues cost the Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team in a 76-52 loss at Schreiner University on Saturday night at the Edington Center.

JWU Denver (2-12, 2-7) turned the ball over 28 times, leading to 34 points for the Mountaineers (6-9, 4-4) in the SCAC matchup.

The Wildcats found themselves trailing right off the bat, falling behind 18-10 after one quarter. They trailed by double digits at halftime and were unable to mount a comeback in the second frame.

Sophomore Brianna Bailey led JWU with 22 points, six rebounds and three assists. Classmate Avionne Gomez had 11 points to go with six boards while senior Salma Oros finished with seven points and four rebounds.

The Wildcats shot 44.4 percent from behind the arc (8-of-18) and made 73.3 percent of their free throws but were outscored 34-10 in the paint and 30-5 on the bench.

JWU returns home Friday to host the University of St. Thomas (7:30 p.m., Wildcat Center).
