Wildcats finish off sweep of Dallas

IRVING, TX - The Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team secured its second season sweep over an SCAC opponent Friday with a 48-44 road victory at the University of Dallas. 

Consecutive 3-pointers by Kaleya Corke and Katey Guzman pushed the Wildcats ahead three minutes into the fourth quarter, giving JWU Denver (4-13, 4-8) the lead for good. The Wildcats now have four conferences victories after having one last year, their first in the conference. 

Guzman paced the Wildcat offense with 15 points to go with six rebounds and five steals. Fellow sophomore Brianna Bailey finished with 13 points and five rebounds while Corke added 10 points, four boards and two assists. Avionne Gomez led the way on the glass with a game-high 10 rebounds, helping JWU to a plus-3 edge as a team. 

JWU limited Dallas to a 2-for-16 (12.5 percent) performance at the 3-point line and had a 10-4 advantage in second-chance points. 

The Wildcats will look for their third straight win Saturday at Austin College.
