DENVER - The Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team came up short in its penultimate game of the season Friday night, falling 70-59 to visiting Nebraska Christian in a non-conference matchup at the Wildcat Center.
Freshman Sariah Serrano scored a career-high 15 points and had five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Sophomore Katey Guzman led the Wildcats (4-20, 4-14) with 17 points while freshman Kaleya Corke finished with 10.
Jazmyne Santiel led all scorers with 28 points to go with 11 rebounds for the Sentinels (11-12), who led wire to wire and controlled the game inside with 55 rebounds as a team.
JWU forced 28 turnovers as six different Wildcats had at least one steal. The hosts were also efficient at the free throw line, making 13 of 15 attempts.
Johnson & Wales will wrap up the 2019-20 season Saturday against NCC. Salma Oros, who had six points, two rebounds and two assists Friday, will be honored before the game for Senior Day.
