Women's golf 2019 spring season preview

DENVER – Following a brief fall campaign, the Johnson & Wales University women's golf team is set for its inaugural spring season.

A first-year program and member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, the Wildcats competed in two events in the fall and have a full slate of tournaments ahead of them in the spring, starting with the Linda Lowery Invitational in Feb. 25-26 in Austin, Texas and concluding with the SCAC Championship April 22-23 in Blanco, Texas.

Juniors Shundiin Kauffman and Hannah Marie Perry will lead the Wildcats as they look to build the program up.

"What motivates me is just going out there and doing the best I can," Kauffman said. "I'm very excited to be on the team. It's a good opportunity for me to do something else with the school, and I really just want to be out there, have fun and just play good."

Having fun is a priority for athletic director Tom Byrnes, who will serve as the interim coach until the search for a full-time coach is completed.

"We're still trying to put some pieces together, but I think the one thing I've tried to emphasize is we're going to go out and have fun," Byrnes said. "Golf is a fun sport, it's a lifetime sport. We're going to do the best we can."

Any JWU students who are interested in joining the women's golf team should contact Tom Byrnes at 303-256-9330 or tbyrnes@jwue.edu.
